A significant storm system rolled through the region beginning on Wednesday, April 2. The storms caused wind damage throughout Calloway County, and the National Weather confirmed two tornados – an EF1 that began in Weakley County, Tennessee and traveled 17.49 miles and ended one mile southeast of Murray on Wednesday and an EF0 that formed east of Murray on Kentucky 94 and ended near the shoreline of Kentucky Lake on April 3. The storm system also brought torrential rainfall that continued throughout the week. Rainfall totals ranged from six inches to 15 inches across the region.
Some roads in Murray and Calloway County have flooded; however, Paducah and McCracken County have been hit much harder with several roads and houses still inundated by the flooding with waters expected to crest late next week.
Phil and Phyllis Panici of Paducah are two of the many affected by the flooding. They have been taking boat trips back and forth retrieving items from their home before the waters rise and more is damaged.
