Murray State defeated University of Tennessee at Martin in an NCAA Qualifier match on Feb. 22, with a total score of 4732. The Racers posted 2357 in smallbore and 2375 in air rifle, while UT Martin recorded 4640 overall.
Murray State senior John Blanton claimed the top individual spot with an aggregate of 1188, matching his season-high. He led in smallbore with a 594 and placed third in air rifle with the same score.
The Racers dominated, taking nine of the top 10 spots. freshman Carlotta Salafia placed second with 1184, leading air rifle with 597 and finishing fourth in smallbore. Senior Scott Patterson took third with 1183, ranking second in smallbore and fourth in air rifle.
Senior Zack Jackson, graduate Allison Henry and freshman Isabelle Gratz each posted 1175. Johnson placed third in smallbore, Henry ranked in the top ten for both categories and Gratz also secured top finishes.
Sophomore Caroline Martin finished with 1172, taking second in air rifle. Sophomore Emma Lawrence and junior Alok Joarder rounded out the top ten with scores of 1170 and 1164.
Rifle now sets their focus on the NCAA Collegiate Rifle Championships which will take place March 14-15 in Lexington, Kentucky.
