Color red in for Calloway County: Former President Donald Trump won the presidential election for this western Kentucky county.
Calloway County has recently been a red county and has voted for Donald Trump in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Calloway County has seen over a 50% voter turnout for the past two presidential elections. Calloway County clerk Antonia Faulkner said that this statistic has stayed true for the 2024 general election.
Including early voting, absentee ballots and election day voting, Faulkner said over 16,000 Calloway County residents cast a vote.
Murray State University students have gone back to their hometowns to vote or sent an absentee ballot. Two students have shared their input on the presidential election.
“I think this election is one of the most important in a long time,” sophomore Trent Little said. “I believe the candidate I voted for is the best option for America to go forward to become a better, safer and stronger America.”
Junior Sarah Warner said that she has felt passionate about voting in this election since she became an eligible voter two years ago.
“With this being my first presidential election, I was excited to do research and to vote for who will be running the country,” Warner said. “It was such an honor and a positive experience. [There is] nothing like getting the ‘I Voted’ sticker.”
As votes are still being collected, Trump currently has the most electoral votes on Tuesday night with most southern and rural states going red.
