Murray State’s rifle team opened their season against UT Martin with a win on Oct. 6 by an aggregate score 4721-4639.
The Racers would beat the Skyhawks in both smallbore and air rifle, scoring 2346 and 2375, respectively. Murray State senior John Blanton led all shooters with an aggregate score of 1186. He scored a 592 in smallbore and 594 in air rifle. Freshman Carlotta Salafia scored an aggregate of 1184 in her first match as a Racer.
Blanton and Salafia led all competitors in smallbore with their 592 and 587. Salafia also led the air rifle scoring with a score of 597 and sophomore Caroline Martin took second with a score of 596.
“We worked hard preseason while we were here and a majority of us really worked hard over the summer as well,” Blanton said. “When we came back we put in a lot of hours on the range here and I’m really proud of everybody.”
The next rifle meet takes place at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range against Ole Miss on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m
