The Board of Regents approved a motion Sept. 13 to acquire a property on North 16th Street to expand parking for students, faculty and staff.
Earlier in the summer, the parking lot in between Faculty Hall and Blackburn Building was fenced off to begin construction for the new nursing and health professionals school. While some parking has been accommodated for certain permits, issues remain with parking.
Bob Jackson, University president, said he hopes the issue could be resolved with the purchase of this property.
“There could be an interim parking lot… a smaller gravel lot that could accommodate the needs,” he said.
The University also received two electric vehicle charging stations recently from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The charging stations would be installed in the area of the Hogancamp General Services Building and the tennis courts off of Chestnut Street for all of the campus to use.
Regent Virginia Gray said she thinks this will be a nice addition to campus.
“On behalf of the TVA, we are tickled to do this,” she said. “We are very excited, in the history of the TVA, we are going to have our board meeting here at Murray State in November. We are proud to partner with Murray and be able to install these on campus.”
The Board also approved the new health services contract. Last month, Murray State and Murray-Calloway County Hospital signed a memorandum of understanding to replace the Village Medical on campus with Murray Medical Associates.
