Murray Medical Associates will replace Village Medical in campus health services later this fall.
Originally, the University offered in-house health services with its own staff but opted to change to self-funding vendors in 2018.
Bob Jackson, university president, and Jerry Penner, chief executive officer of Murray-Calloway County Hospital, mutually signed a memorandum of understanding Aug. 16 in Wells Hall.
Jackson said this is a large step for both the University and the local hospital.
“We are very grateful to Mr. Penner and the Murray-Calloway County hospital for advancing the initiative,” he said. “It is vitally important to families when they are visiting campus to see a top notch, high quality healthcare services operation.”
Bringing local hospital services onto campus also brings the opportunity for broader health discussions, medical students practicing what they learn, wellness checks and more.
Penner said taking care of the Murray State community is important.
“We don’t have a single physician that isn’t board certified,” he said. “It’s important to get the faculty back on the front lines as quickly as possible so students can continue their education.”
The new health services will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The anticipated launch of the new health services is Oct. 14.
