With graduation only days behind her, former Racer outside hitter Rachel Giustino signed to play volleyball in Switzerland with TS Volley Düdingen Volley Powercats.
Giustino signed with the Powercats after a dominant senior season at Murray State, in which she averaged third in the nation in kills per set at 5.35. Giustino set the record for kills in a season for Murray State with 610 kills in 2019, pushing her grand total to 1,764, the most in Murray State history.
Giustino holds the record for most total points by any Racer with 1,964. Giustino’s offensive prowess in her senior season helped her make All-OVC First Team, AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, AVCA Midwest All-Region and VolleyballMag 4th-Team All-American. Giustino was named Offensive Player of the Year for the OVC her senior season. Giustino is one of only nine Racers in history to record at least 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
“I am incredibly excited about this next chapter of my life and ready for the new challenges that will present themselves,” Giustino said.
During an interview, Giustino made it a point to thank Head Coach David Schwepker and the rest of the Murray State community.
“Without [Coach’s] support, and the support of my teammates and other Murray State staff, none of this could have been possible!” Giustino said. “I’m incredibly proud to have played for a program that helped me achieve my future goals.”
