On June 8-9 the West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers Junior Derby League will host a five-team junior roller derby tournament in Paducah.
The West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers Junior Derby League is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization founded in March 2012. The team teaches kids the sport of flat track roller derby while boosting skaters’ confidence and teaching them “a can do” attitude.
The round robin style tournament will take place at Kingsway Skateland and teams will be coming in from across the country. Doors will open at 8am on Saturday, June 8 and admission is $20. A two day pass for June 8-9 is $25.
The tournament titled “Clash of the Titans on Wheels, Episode II” involves five teams who will compete to raise their national ranking. The teams include Columbia Junior Rollers from South Carolina, Topeka Chickwhips from Kansas, IC Bruisers from Iowa, Black and Blue Gems from Kentucky/Ohio and the West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers from Paducah, Kentucky. Each team will receive four bouts so there will be a total of ten full contact bouts.
“Our tournament last year was an amazing event that brought together kids from across the Country,” said Barbie “Barba-Fett,” head coach of West Kentucky Rockin’ Rollers Junior League. “We are excited to host these teams this year and bring approximately seventy-five skaters and their families to Paducah.”
