Starship featuring Mickey Thomas will be performing at the CFSB Center on Aug. 10.
Thomas gained popularity in 1976 as the lead singer of the Elvin Bishop Band, who charted with the hit song “Fooled Around and Fell in Love.”
Three years later, he joined Jefferson Starship as lead singer. The band instantly hit number one with “Jane,” and later changed the name to Starship.
In 1985, the band released the album that would come to define the 80s, “Knee Deep in the Hoopla.” Featuring two No. 1 hits — “We Built this City” and “Sara” — the album reached No. 7 on Billboard and went platinum. Starship followed up their initial success with another No. 1 single, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” featured on the soundtrack for the film “Mannequin.”
Starship recorded “It’s Not Over (‘Til It’s Over),” which became Major League Baseball’s theme in 1987.
CFSB Center Operations Supervisor Ryan Smart explained how excited organizers were to book the 80s band.
“We are excited to welcome Starship featuring Mickey Thomas to the CFSB Center,” Smart said. “This is another great opportunity for guests from all around to see one of the legends in the music industry perform here. For decades, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas has performed on some of the biggest stages and venues all over the world. We are honored to host them this summer.”
