A Popeyes establishment is under construction in Murray and is projected to be finished later this spring.
The restaurant will be located in front of Walmart, next to the Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce, on 12th Street.
Supreme Foods is the owner of the upcoming restaurant addition to Murray. The company is working with JRS Construction to build the Popeyes restaurant.
They are also working with their marketing team on creating possible discounts for Murray State students.
The announcement of the restaurant and possible discounts for students has some excited.
“Popeyes is one of my favorite fast food chains,” Chris LaRose, a sophomore commuter, said. “I’m from New Orleans and it’s the closest fast food place to the Cajun food I know I love. Whenever I can use my Murray State discount, I will. Any little bit I can save helps.”
Kevin Newell, the primary owner of the company and a Murray native, said the company is looking forward to hiring Murray State students for part-time jobs.
Abby Smith, sophomore from Bremen, Kentucky, said Popeyes isn’t her favorite restaurant, but she’s looking forward to more job opportunities.
“I don’t particularly like Popeyes, but if they have good discounts I might have to give it a second try,” Smith said. “I don’t think I would consider working there, but I think it’s awesome they’re bringing new jobs to campus.”
