The Murray State Racers finished up a two-day meet this weekend at the Don DeNoon Invitational at Southern Illinois-Carbondale and the Rod McCravy Memorial at the University of Kentucky.
The Racers competed against OVC rivals UT Martin and Eastern Kentucky this weekend, as well as some Power-5 schools in Ohio State University and the University of Kentucky.
“After watching the ladies compete this week it just solidified the staffs idea that this is a deep team,” said Head Coach Adam Kiesler. “In my nine years here I would have to say it is one of the deepest if not the deepest.”
Freshman Alayna Stalter set a new personal record with a time of 9.38, placing fifth, while freshman Jaysha Carter was seventh with a time of 9.29. Carter also broke a personal record in the 400m with a seventh-place finish, running a time of 1:01.41.
The Racers had two runners in the Top 5 of the 200m in senior Aubrey Main and redshirt sophomore Jessikha Ribeiro. Main finished second with a time of 26.23, and Ribeiro placed third with a time of 26.24.
Freshman Emma Creviston ran the 1600-meter mile run for the first time this year and placed seventh with a time of 5:15.74. Freshman Morgan Vosler broke a personal record coming in 10th place with a time of 5:25.69.
Junior Hilary McAdam faced tough competition and was the top finisher of the day finishing in fifth place ahead of runners from Kentucky, Ohio State and Eastern Kentucky in the 800m with a time of 2:12.44.
Freshman JaKayla McSwain had a field day placing in the top ten in three events and breaking two personal records. She took third in the 400m, running under one minute for the first time in her collegiate career with a time of 59.70. She set a new PR in the 200m with a time of 26.34 as she finished in third place. She finished as one of the best Racers in the 60m, finishing ninth with a time of 7.91.
The Racers look to close out the indoor regular season next week on a high note in the Stamford Open, and carry momentum to the OVC championships on Feb. 20 in Birmingham, Alabama.
“This weekend should be fun. A lot of athletes are very close to PR’s or finally getting things down. I look forward to seeing the outcome.” Kiesler said.
