Several students filled Oakhurst lawn on Wednesday, April 25, to enjoy barbecue and the chance to chat with President Bob Davies.
For the second year in a row, Barbecue With Bob was held and sponsored by Allegro Fine Foods and Journey Church. The event was a way for Journey Church to serve college students and for Davies to connect with students at the end of another school year.
“Well the whole concept with Allegro and John Fuqua over there was to provide students an opportunity in the spring to let off some steam and have some fun,” Davies said.
John Fuqua is the president of Allegro Fine Foods in Paris, Tennessee. He got involved after he started attending Journey Church on campus and said he enjoys just interacting with college students.
“Last year was just an awesome event but it rained,” Fuqua said. “We just wanted a sunshiny spring day and we’ve been blessed with it.”
Kaitlyn Foster, a junior from Leesburg, Kentucky, came because she got an email about it and heard a lot of people talking about the event.
“It is pretty cool,” Foster said. “[There was] really good food.”
Matt Johnson is the lead pastor at Journey Church. He along with Davies and Fuqua planned this event as a way celebrate with those from the university.
“We just love being able to give back to the students, interact with all the college students here and let them know we appreciate them,” Johnson said. “It was natural for us to want to do it again.”
Journey Church meets at the CFSB Center in the Basketball Arena.
“Our goal as a church is to create a place that people who do not go to church love to attend.” Johnson said.
