Men’s golf places 10th in Mission Inn Spring Spectacular
Murray State’s men’s golf team took home 10th place in the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida over the weekend.
The Racers were lead by sophomores Justin Wendling, from Lithia, Florida, and Austin Knight, from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, who each recorded a 227 over three rounds of play earning them a share of 27th place. Sophomore Avery Edwards was forced to withdraw from the event after the first round.
Murray State shot first and second round scores of 314 and 307, finishing the third round with a weekend-best 301.
Despite shooting their best round as a team on day two, the Racers were unable to make a significant climb on the leaderboard.
Texas Christian University was the first place winner by 20 strokes with Toledo and Indiana rounding out the top three.
Murray State continues play next weekend in the FAU Slomin Autism Championship at Osprey Point Golf Club in Boca Raton, Florida.
Women place 2nd in rain shortened Citrus Challenge
Murray State’s women’s golf team placed second in the Citrus Challenge at Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Florida this week after rain shortened the tournament to 36 holes.
Senior Moa Folke, from Tranas, Sweden, scored the lowest two rounds for the Racers, shooting a 75 and 74 (149)and a spot in sixth place. Another Racer finished inside the top ten as junior Linette Holmslykke, from Vejli, Denmark, placed ninth, scoring 77 and 73 for a two-round total of 150.
The Racers shared second place with Keiser University, each scoring 609, and trailed tournament winner Florida Gulf Coast by just 12 strokes.
Murray State will be back in action March 23-25 in the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Golf Club in Stockbridge Georgia.
