Nearly 6,500 people around the world watched in the Quad and via live stream as Alpha Delta Pi, with their 19-A-D-Pi theme, was named the 2017 Sigma Alpha Iota All Campus Sing grand champions.

The title grand champion is based upon change wars, the instrument drive and their performance. Nearly 2,000 attendees were in hammocks, stand-up tents, blankets and chairs as 22 groups performed over the five hour period.

Sigma Alpha Iota started the production with their chorale by Margaret Blackburn, followed by a few words of encouragement from President Bob Davies.

Davies wished the performers good luck as well as wishing the crowd a good time. His last words were “Go Racers!”

The judges of All Campus Sing were Ashley Cumming, assistant professor of music, Shane Melvin of the Paducah Symphony Orchestra and Carrie McGinnis, director of alumni relations and Vice President of University Advancement.

The winner of the sorority division was Alpha Omicron Pi, dressing up as old women with their 50th-year reunion theme. Taking second was Kappa Delta’s “Welcome to Emerald City”. Alpha Sigma Alpha’s performance of “Head in the Clouds” was third place and in fourth was Sigma Sigma Sigma with “Give our Regards to Broadway”.

Sigma Phi Epsilon took home the first place winnings of the fraternity division with their “Sig-Ep into the Ocean” production. In second was Pi Kappa Alpha with “Sound the Alarm”, with Alpha Sigma Phi’s “Cast Away” in third and “Day at the Ballpark” by Lambda Chi Alpha in fourth.

The Honors College took first place in the independent division with their performance of “On-O-Mat-O-Poe-La.”

Other winners of the Independent Category were Sock and Buskin with “Save the Arts”, Sigma Alpha’s Michael Jackson theme and Track and Field’s mix on the 90’s hit tracks.

Elizabeth Residential College kicked off the division with the theme “1 in 3”, which took first place. Hester College finished in second with a circus theme. Springer Franklin’s “Phantom of the Opera” in third and Regents/White Colleges’ “Southside Little Monsters” in fourth.

All Campus Sing is a philanthropy that Sigma Alpha Iota puts on each year, this year being the 59th. Groups choreograph and perform musical selections from around the world. Sororities, fraternities, residential colleges and independent groups perform on the steps of historic Lovett Auditorium for a crowd in the quad as well as a live stream.
