The track and field team opened its indoor season at the Illini Classic in Urbana-Champaign, Ill.
Junior Lashea Shaw started strong, finishing in the top-10 of three events. Shaw took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78, and eighth in the 60-meter dash (7.95) and the 200-meter dash (25.72).
Freshman Victoria Yocum made her collegiate debut by posting a time of 8.02 in the 60-meter dash, good for 15th place.
In the 800-meter run, junior Brittany Bohn set a personal-best time by finishing in 11th place in 2:21.09.
Junior Tonia Pratt did well in two events. She placed seventh in shot put with a toss of 13.88 meters, and took fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 17.44 meters.
Several other Racers finished in the top-10 in their respective events, giving Murray State a strong start.
The team competes again this weekend at the Eastern Illinois Invitational in Charleston, Ill.
