With spring fast approaching and the formidable swimsuit season fast on our heels, the Wellness Center is offering just the answer to student’s fitness woes. The Wellness Center has, this year more than any, worked to give students what they want in their fitness regimen as they offer classes in everything from line dancing to water aerobics to Zumba.
For no extra cost, any Murray State student can, with a valid student ID, attend any number of the Wellness Center’s fitness offerings. Some classes are limited, by the size of the space they are held in, so students can call ahead to reserve a spot in the class.
Classes include kickboxing, body burn and power pump, line dancing, maximum meltdown, cycling, Zumba, Tai Chi and Water Aerobics.
For those just getting back into the swing of things, it is recommended to go to one of the more low-impact, less intense classes, working back up to the desired level of fitness.

Kickboxing
This is an intense, high-energy, full-body workout. The class utilizes hand weights, medicine balls, resistance bands, bags and Plyometrics to improve overall strength, flexibility, coordination and balance.
Body Burn and Power Pump
This is a total-body workout with various forms of weights. It is high-intensity cardio as a group.
Line Dancing
This is a beginner-level course designed to teach basic steps and turns while getting the body moving.
Maximum Meltdown
This is a full-hour workout intended to tone and tighten the hard to reach areas. The difficulty increases as each class progresses and promises to get students to break a sweat.
Cycling
One of the more popular options, it is a 45 minute session of intense cycling. The class tones and strengthens muscles by utilizing the cycles with various advanced moves.
Zumba
Zumba offers an upbeat, fun time for students looking to dance their way into fitness. It’s a low key, low impact, fun way to reach fitness goals.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese marital art that focuses on balance and body control. The class helps students relieve stress while they enjoy its health benefits.
Water Aerobics
Students can enjoy their favorite cardio routines in the water, as the water adds extra resistance while making activities nearly impact free for those with injuries and bad joints.
