The Florida Board of Education announced the new education commissioner Wednesday morning. President Randy Dunn was not selected.
Former Indiana school superintendent Tony Bennett was chosen for the position.
The board of education met Tuesday afternoon to interview each of the three finalists. Among Bennett and Dunn was Charles Hokanson Jr., a former U.S. Department of Education official.
