SGA honors campus personnel for storm efforts

The Student Government Association voted on a resolution and introduced a new bill during the student senate meeting.

Resolution 90-26-R1 recognizes the work of on-campus staff during the winter weather closure to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff. Murray State Facilities Management and SSC, police and administration are acknowledged in the document.

The resolution passed in an unanimous vocal vote.

Bill 90-26-B1 proposes to revise articles II and IV of the student senate bylaws. This amendment was drafted following the ratification of Bill 90-25-B3, which replaced the position of vice president of finance with a new one, the vice president of student connections.

To remain consistent with the amended constitution, this bill strikes out all mentions of the former position and replaces it with the new role. The responsibilities and requirements of the vice president of student connections are also to be added, along with expanding those of the vice president of administration.

The bill will be subject to a vocal vote on Feb. 18.

Ron Patterson, Murray State president, announced that on Jan. 9, he and Matthew Price, a board of regents member, had decided on a set of candidates for first round interviews for the position of provost and vice president of academic affairs.

“There will be eight candidates interviewed next Monday,” Patterson said. “And then the second round after that one will be March 2, 3 and 4 here on campus. I think there will obviously be student participation. Please provide your voice and have input there as well. This is a very critical and important position on our campus.”
