Murray State and its regional campuses will continue to be closed for the remainder of the week. The announcement was made by Ron Patterson, Murray State president, who said the conditions of Winter Storm Fern still pose a risk.

“Our Campus Weather Preparedness Committee has continued to monitor this week’s forecast as a result of Winter Storm Fern,” Patterson said in a press release. “Based upon the most recent information received from the National Weather Service, our area has been impacted by the accumulation of heavy snow, sleet, freezing rain and below freezing temperatures.”

Murray State will be closed and classes will be canceled for the following dates.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 28
  • Thursday, Jan. 29
  • Friday, Jan. 30

Winslow Dining Hall will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fast Track will be open from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. during the rest of the week and into the weekend. Patterson also said to keep an eye out for updates from Racer Athletics regarding The Harlem Globetrotter game rescheduled for tonight at 7 p.m., Jan. 27.

Facilities Management is expected to remove ice and snow across Murray State, but Patterson urged caution for those still on campus.

Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced in a press release the state will be setting up a price gouging hotline, as the act is a crime during a state of emergency.

“Kentucky law defines price gouging as a grossly excessive charge — more than 10% above the price prior to the emergency declaration—that is not related to higher costs to the seller,” the press release said. “Goods and services covered by Kentucky’s price gouging law include food, gasoline, natural gas, heating oil, shelter, transportation, emergency cleanup and repair or reconstruction services like tree removal.”

Those who find instances of price gouging or suspect it, are to report it either online or call 1-888-432-9257.
